Accessibility
This is Meror's accessibility statement. It covers the Meror website (meror.ca) and the Meror app for iPhone.
Our commitment
Everyone should be able to use Meror, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard, voice control, zoom or larger text.
The standard we aim for
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, on the website and in the iPhone app. WCAG is the standard used by accessibility laws such as the ADA in the United States, the AODA in Ontario and the European Accessibility Act.
Current status: Meror partially conforms with WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Our latest review found no failures of any WCAG 2.2 Level A or Level AA criterion we tested. We do not claim full conformance because we have not yet run a real screen reader, some screens have not been checked at the very largest text sizes, and parts of Meror are made by other companies. See Known limitations.
What we did
- Used the website and the app with a keyboard alone: moving with Tab, opening and closing dialogs and menus, and checking where focus lands.
- Ran automated checks (axe) on every kind of page, in light and dark mode, at phone and desktop widths, on the website and on the app's screens in a test browser.
- Checked what screen readers are told about each button, link, form field, heading and dialog, using the browser's accessibility tree.
- Checked pages zoomed in to 400% (320 pixels wide) and with wider text spacing.
- Checked that animations stop when your device is set to reduce motion.
Accessibility features
- Skip to main content: the first thing the Tab key reaches on the website jumps past the menus to the page itself.
- Keyboard: after you open a page, focus moves to its main heading. A dialog keeps focus inside until you close it, Escape closes it when it can be closed, and focus then goes back to what opened it.
- Light and dark: in the app, Automatic follows your phone's light or dark setting, and you can also choose Light or Dark under Appearance in your account. On the website, the moon or sun button at the top switches between them.
- Reduced motion: when your device is set to reduce motion, Meror stops its animations and transitions.
- Live prices: under Appearance in your account, set Live prices to Paused and prices stop updating on their own. Your portfolio then shows the time its prices are from, with a Refresh button.
- Charts: return and price charts have a short written summary (the period, where it started and ended, the change and its lowest point) and a table of key points for screen readers. With a keyboard, the arrow keys read the chart point by point.
Known limitations
- We have not yet tested Meror with VoiceOver or another screen reader. Our checks read what a browser passes to a screen reader, so a real screen reader may still run into problems they missed.
- Inside the iPhone app, most text follows the text size set on your iPhone, up to twice the usual size. The tab bar and the top bar grow less, like the iPhone's own bars: touch and hold one of their buttons to see its words larger. We have not yet checked every screen at the largest sizes, so some text there may be cut off or overlap.
Some parts of Meror are made by other companies:
- Buying Pro in the iPhone app, and managing or cancelling it there, uses Apple's own screens, which we do not control. If you have trouble with them, contact Apple Support, or tell us what happened.
- Paying for Pro on the website opens Stripe's checkout page, which we do not control. If you cannot use it, tell us what happened and which browser you use.
- Signing in with Apple or Google opens their own screens, which we do not control. If they do not work for you, sign up or sign in with your email address and a password instead.
- Connecting a brokerage or an exchange for real-money copying opens screens from that company, or from the service that links it, which we do not control. If you cannot use them, tell us which one and what happened. Copying on paper works without connecting anything.
Other formats
If you need information from your account in another format, for example your trade history or your account details, ask us through the contact form and we will provide it.
Feedback
If something on Meror is hard or impossible for you to use, tell us. Say which page or screen it was, what you were trying to do, and the device, browser or assistive technology you use.
We reply to every message, usually within 1 business day.
Write to us about accessibilityHow we assess
We assess Meror ourselves (a self-assessment), using the checks described above.
